Obama and McCain Donors: Some Differences

Cross-posted by Maggie at Maggie's Notebook

Political candidates have agendas, as do voters. Most of us would think not all of any one ethnic group would almost all vote for the one candidate of their ethnicity - however, in this election, it appears that is the case.

The following is a list of Middle Eastern-seeming names found on the Federal Election Commission's website who have contributed to Senator Barack Obama. This list addresses only the "A's" and only about 12 pages of the 25 pages of "A's" are shown. I do not know if there are additional names that can be added to the list below from the remainder of the alphabet.

For Senator McCain: In the A, F, H, I, M, O, U and Z FEC categories, I found no Middle-Eastern-seeming names. Use this link to search the McCain FEC database.

About the names I have listed:
(1) I omitted all Middle Eastern names with a Western-seeming given name.
(2) I omitted many names that might qualify for this list.
(3) I probably missed a few.

There are two ways for a reader to check the validity of the names I have listed, on the FEC website. Using the link to all "A's" is a better source, as all of the information about the donor can be accessed. The link for each individual name may, or may not, give the amount of the donation.

This article is intended to demonstrate not how much money is donated, but rather a particular ethnicity that has donated overwhelmingly to one candidate, and seemingly, none or almost none, to the other.

  1. Nice work, and clearly illustrates a singular difference: anyone who states he's not supporting Obama can be (and is) immediately accused of racism, becasue he's black (actually, to me he isn't, but that's another topic).

Nobody notices the unthinking, institutionalised racism of those who support him just because he's black/Muslim.

  2. wake up: I agree and I appreciate the fact that your "got" what I was saying.

I am weary of me and mine being tagged as racist, when I, and we, are anything but. My choices are belittled and marginalized if I do not want to vote for a Black man or a woman, for that matter - and of course.
