Shock and Awe: The Good People

If you look back over the last several articles posted here at Radarsite they all have one thing in common: they are all expressing the author's shock and awe. Shock that we can actually be this close to real disaster; and awe at the enormity of the forces pushes us toward this end. Nothing, I repeat, nothing, that we can do or say seems capable of altering this fateful plunge.

We, all of us writers and bloggers, have tried absolutely everything. We have enumerated scandal after scandal, all to no avail. We have tried but we can't do it. We cannot break out of this iron shell of denial, deceit and disinformation. It has become all too apparent now that we, the writers, are not going to be able to stop this rush to national ruin. Our only hope now lies with the people. All those regular people out there who may have never read a political blog or studied the Koran. All those people whose only access to the news and opinion has come from their regular in-the-tank-leftist media. These are the only people who can save us now. These good everyday people are our very last hope.

But thankfully, there is some precedent for this hope in our shared history. There have indeed been times when the people have spoken and the polls and the pundits were monumentally discredited and humiliated. It can happen. And it can happen again if these American voters sense something amiss, something in a candidate that just doesn't add up, some vague feelings of distrust or unarticulated suspicion that give them just enough pause to hold back that precious vote.

There is an unknown and unquantifiable element in the American psyche perhaps best characterized as good old-fashioned Yankee common sense. The pundits of course despise this notion. Because if it is true, it negates all of their profound pronouncements and their erudite predictions. It brings into question everything they have built their reputations on.

As much as I loathe the thought of it, I predict that nothing that any writer could possibly come out with in this next week will make a damn bit of difference to those poll numbers. Nothing. No matter how terrible or bizarre.

But on that one day, that one particular Tuesday, the American people will speak and what they might actually say could still shock the world. - rg

Update: It has become necessary to explain to those new commenters who are unfamiliar with Radarsite that this is not an open forum for comparing the merits of liberals and conservatives, McCain and Obama. I will not allow you to use this space to preach your sermons on behalf of Obama. This is an unabashedly conservative website devoted to the defeat of liberalism in general and Obama in particular. Please don't waste you time and mine. You will just be deleted.

  1. Take heart fellow traveler, see "not your sweetie" regard Pennsylvania and the early returns in Colorado. Colorado has been the DNC's primary focus in flipping a red state to blue since '00.

And if you are feeling a little battle weary, as we all are, I leave you with this gift from our cousins across the pond when they still had a spine.

The sand of the desert is sodden red -
Red with the wreck of a square that broke
The gatling's jammed and the colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed its banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of a schoolboy rallies the ranks -
"Play up! Play up! And play the game!"

  2. We are Americans...we don't give up! We fight for what is right for our country.

    You have given up.

  3. Agree with every word you wrote, most especially the last line. I've only managed to convince two voters to vote McCain "for sure" (rather than merely saying, "Hey, I'll think about it...") What I find heartening is that these two people already knew, for example, about the Dems' plan to steal our 401(k)'s - before I could even tell them. Point being - these two people are taking an active interest in politics that goes far beyond next Tuesday. They understand that their participation, on an ongoing basis, is vital to the vitality of the country itself. These two people have friends and extended families (I don't), so there's no telling how many more people are sharing in the information, to our (and McCain's) advantage.

Appreciate all of your commentaries, by the way. I've started reading them first, before anyone else's.

  4. Yup,

I came to that conclusion a week ago. Nothing 'scandalous' will change this outcome. I'm now praying for the 'silent majority' of common sense Americana to turn up at the polls on their 'first real day of awarness' of the election.

the partisans and aware have already made their imput. the ones who will swing this are the ones who don't care much till election day.

  5. Thank you so much Denise-Mary. Your words are always encouraging.

And to NADA -- I hardly need a lecture from someone I don't even know about giving up. When you put as much effort as I have done into trying to keep Obama out of the White House I might just listen to your condescending nonsense. To do that however you will have to work 12-13 hours of every day, seven days a week, without taking time off or a vacation on this one great crusade. Because that is what I have been doing and what I am doing right this minute. Save your ridiculous criticism for those lazy bastards who got us into this sorry predicament in the first place.
PS: I don't know why I didn't delete that damn comment. I must be in a really good mood today. But don't try commenting here again unless it's an apology. I work too damn hard to put up with that crap.

  7. Two quotes come to mind. A few will recognize them; most won't.

"He that endeaureth to the end, the same shall be saved."

"Time, patience and perseverence accomplish all things."

  8. A disease which is too virulent for its own good does not survive well. It ends up killing itself or its host environment before can proliferate (eg, ebola).

Of course, the patient usually dies. But the bug fails in its mission.

The uninfected survivors go on with life.

    May I suggest another topic?

Who is one vital person one must understand to best understand this election? Answer - a white guy from Chicago that died over 30 years ago - his name is Saul Alinsky.

Check out the Obama factor - his first stint was as a community organizer [see the wiki for Alinsky - turns out this description is preferred marxist term for whatwe call local revolutionary] where he honed his skills on Alinsky's rules. Later he taught "leadership" to Acorn leaders - bet it was Alinky's rules - finally check out Boston Globe - Alinsky's son wote in how in the democratic convention the disciple followed Alinky's leadership. Lacking any definition by the candidate himself, this appears the best was to get into Obama's mind.

And as for our cherished freedoms: the Alinskyites are already attacking them.

  10. "But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise..."

Now the wise MSM has assured us that Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber are fools, but God has heard the cries of his people and will stand the MSM on its ear on November 4.

In the mean time, our work is not done. Keep writing, keeping working, and keep praying.

  11. What the Marxists had not been able to accomplish before, they are on the verge of achieving now.

If the Obamaites win, it will NOT be the end.

Uniting with them and supporting the new ruler is not an option.

    I leave you this:

1931 -- Students at the Lenin School of Political Warfare in Moscow are taught:

"One day we shall start to spread the most theatrical peace movement the world has ever seen. The capitalist countries, stupid and decadent ... will fall into the trap offered by the possibility of making new friends. Our day will come in 30 years or so... The bourgeoisie must be lulled into a false sense of security."

So it took a little more than 30 years...

  15. God, I love your blog. I live in Baltimore. Every election, I'm the only one (or nearly so) in my office who is voting for the Republican candidate. Now, however, I'm one of many. I'm one of four in a pretty small office who are voting for McCain. These people are traditionally Democrats! I'm also seeing way more McCain signs in yards than I ever did for Bush. I don't trust the polls. If they can be manipulated, they will be. And they can. So they are. Thanks for you truly inspiring blog!
