From Times Online:
The US military is drawing up plans for a "surgical strike" against an insurgent training camp inside Iran if Republican Guards continue with attempts to destabilize Iraq, western intelligence sources said last week. One source said the Americans were growing increasingly angry at the involvement of the Guards' special-operations Quds force inside Iraq, training Shi'ite militias and smuggling weapons into the country.
Despite a belligerent stance by Vice-President Dick Cheney, the administration has put plans for an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities on the back burner since Robert Gates replaced Donald Rumsfeld as defense secretary in 2006, the sources said. However, US commanders are increasingly concerned by Iranian interference in Iraq and are determined that recent successes by joint Iraqi and US forces in the southern port city of Basra should not be reversed by the Quds Force. From Ace:
[...] Seems to be yet another sign of growing US confidence in Iraq -- it seems we've been afraid to do this previously, fearing the response of the Iraqi Shiites. But with Maliki now getting tough with Iran, and apparently with public support, it's now on the table. The report says that Iran may escalate the conflict if we strike their territory. I can only hope so. [...]I agree, seeing that there has been a state of war between the USA and Iran since Jimmy Carter's Defective Administration and Iran has been fighting a proxy war with the USA in Iraq for several years now.
Cuffy at Perfunction has the video from the Carrier USS Abraham Lincoln that has arrived off the coast of Iran. It is said that they already have targets programmed - SOP - but still on the ready. Cuffy also shares links to Iranian news media which are apparently in panic mode and that they laud the socialist democrats in the USA...go figure.
This has been brewing for decades folks and it is soon coming to a head. The diplomatic efforts through the years has resulted in one thing and one thing only - the delaying of the inevitable.
Note from Radarsite: There is of course another alternative: If we just have a little more patience and rely on the proven efficacy of Western diplomacy and UN inspections, no doubt the Iranians will eventually see the light and will voluntarily give up their foolish pursuit of nuclear weapons -- Right?
THAT'S IT!! All we need to do is talk nice-nice! It worked in '79...right?
ReplyDeleteWhy play the cheat & retreat game? Just usher them into Hell; they'll never threaten us again.
ReplyDeleteOnce is enough!
Thanks. I agree with you both. I too wish we'd just "take care of business" once and for all.
ReplyDeleteI love that idea Snooper. I'll meet you later in the week and we'll work out the details. Ben can help us.
ReplyDeleteIt's a date

Hooah! Get some!
ReplyDeleteMake my day
ReplyDeleteThe US has been wanting a little payback for the taking of the US Embassy in 1979. And guess who was a chief hostage taker? Our old friend Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. That's right. He was in charge of many of the terrorists that kept 53 American diplomats hostage.
ReplyDeleteNow he sends his speed boats to harass American ships. He's messing with the wrong nation.
The US is not Great Britain. Nor is it a paper tiger. An American ship will not allow itself to be boarded. And such an action will be seen as an act of war.
Ahmadinejad and the Mullahs should be very scared.
The B-2 bomber is stationed in the US, and can bomb any target in Iran without being detected.
The US Navy is worldwide. Our Subs can strike at Iran from anywhere in the world. And they would only have 15 minutes at best to start praying.
The US is a sleeping giant whom you don't want to awaken.
AMEN findalis!
ReplyDeleteNo way in Hell, Snooper!!! MAD is not a deterrent to Islam. Being killed in battle guarantees a 'slime of one of the best seats in the celestial bordello.
ReplyDeleteEither emancipate them from Allah or send them to him. There is no alternative.
Findalis makes a good initial point with; "The US is a sleeping giant whom you don't want to awaken."
ReplyDeleteBut, here's a few points to consider; the US has a penchant for gadgets like 'snooze alarms', coffee timers (inflexibly pre-set).
Another point to consider is, giant or elf; waking up in the dark can lead to stubbing one's own toes. If one is waking up after self-induced sleep or feel-good remedies, political opiates, luxuriating indolence or drunk with power; that Uncle Sam should check his orientation and take a good look at with whom he's been sleeping.
The jingoistic idea of being a sleeping giant does little for me when I think of Gulliver.
I hear ya Ben but it would be fun to watch a Jihadi misbehave and ALL of them go off at once.
