IMMIGRATION IS OUT OF CONTROL

Monday June 2,2008
By Tom Whitehead Home Affairs Correspondent

SHOCKING new figures last night revealed the extent to which the country’s immigration policy is running out of control.

It is now clear that 2.3 million people have been allowed to flock through the “open door” into Britain.

Most of the newcomers have arrived from outside the EU, making a mockery of Government claims that an annual cap on migrants would have a limited effect. Critics said the influx – equivalent to the entire population of Greater Manchester – has put a massive drain on public services.

It has also forced up the tax burden on already hard-pressed families and seen police forces pleading for more cash to deal with gangs of foreign criminals.

The figures come two weeks after the Daily Express revealed that a record number of British passports are now being handed out to immigrants settling here.

Tory MP Philip Davies said: “Immigration is having a dramatic effect on our public services. It’s one of the biggest reasons we’re having to build so many new houses and concrete over the country.

“The quicker the Conservatives can get in and get a hold of the problem the better. Mass immigration is making all services scarcer and more expensive in terms of tax.” The latest picture follows analysis of official immigration statistics by Migrationwatch UK.

Chairman Sir Andrew Green said: “As public concern has increased, supporters of immigration have tried to give the impression that the majority come from the new EU member states and that, in time, as their economies improve they will return home – thus implying that public fears are groundless.

“But the Government’s own figures show that this is far from the case. They also give the lie to those who claim that there is no point in immigration controls which do not apply to EU citizens.”

Based on figures from the Office of National Statistics, the Migrationwatch study shows there was a net migration to the UK of 2.3 million people between 1991 and 2000.

The Migrationwatch flow includes returning Britons but this number is very low in comparison. More significantly, the vast majority of migrants have come from outside the EU, predominantly the third world. Only eight per cent came from the new Eastern European members of the EU.

The debate over annual limits for migrants centres on the fact that an annual cap would not effect EU citizens who have free movement between member states.

Immigration minister Liam Byrne and the Home Office have said foreign immigration from outside the EU was no more than 52 per cent of those arriving. That figure has been regularly used as evidence that any annual cap on migrants would not have a large effect.

But in February, the Government was accused of fiddling the figures after the Statistics Commission supported Migrationwatch’s argument that the real figure for immigration from outside Europe was more than two-thirds of the total because movements by Britons had been wrongly included in Government estimates.

Shadow Immigration Minister Damian Green said: “These figures blow a hole in the Government’s argument that the Conservative policy of an annual limit would not be effective. Until we have this limit, public confidence in the immigration system will not be restored.

“The Government policy of talking tough but acting soft on immigration is looking increasingly threadbare.”

Sir Andrew said: “What we need is effective control. The Government’s much-vaunted points-based system is entirely open-ended and simply fails to address the deep public concern.”

A note from Radarsite: Nowhere could the major cultural battles that are taking place throughout the West be more visible and instructive than those currently being fought out in Britain. The multiculturalist PC Government's "open door" immigration policy has, not surprisingly, proven ruinous to the country, both economically and culturally. Despite their repeated, and one might say, cynical and devious attempts to put a good face on it and fudge the figures, the results are in and they are deeply troubling. The situation is much worse than originally thought. The British Isles are in serious trouble, and we all know who is to blame, don't we?

How on earth does one justify giving away an ancient and noble culture -- to a lesser, more backward culture? How does one rationalize "opening the doors" to thousands upon thousands of unskilled and often 'culturally-conflicted' immigrants whose arrival will unquestionably have a "dramatic [and negative] effect on the nation's services", and on the nation's character? How does one defend the act of ruining a country, while supposedly in the service of that country?

This is the war we are in. These are the battles. This is the nature of the enemy we face.

We here in America are now being advised by our knowledgeable British friends to "not go to London". To "steer clear" of one of the most famous and beautiful capitols in the world. And why? Why are they warning us away? Because, in their own words, London has changed so much that it has become almost unrecognizable. It has begun to take on all the mean characteristics of a Third World city, with an appropriately out of control Third World crime rate. It isn't the immigrants who live in isolated pockets now; it's the Brits.

This is where your vaunted liberal multiculturalism has brought us, you fools, you multiculturalist PC morons. Are you proud of yourselves now?

As we watch this epic drama unfold from across our pond, we shake our heads in disbelief and sadness. But we comfort ourselves with the knowledge that what is happening over there in England could not happen here. Here, we are protected by our American laws and our American Constitution. A foreign culture -- or several foreign cultures, just couldn't come over here and take over the whole damn country -- could they? We are different here -- aren't we? I mean, no American Government would allow such a thing to take place here -- would they?

The answer, my friends, is just a little over five months away.

  1. How strange that this was predicted on April 20, 1968 by Enoch Powell in his Rivers of Blood speech.

    In the speech he said:

We must be mad, literally mad, as a nation to be permitting the annual inflow of some 50,000 dependents, who are for the most part the material of the future growth of the immigrant descended population. It is like watching a nation busily engaged in heaping up its own funeral pyre. So insane are we that we actually permit unmarried persons to immigrate for the purpose of founding a family with spouses and fiancees they have never seen.....

This does not mean that the immigrant and his descendants should be elevated into a privileged or special class or that the citizen should be denied his right to discriminate in the management of his own affairs between one fellow-citizen and another or that he should be subjected to an inquisition as to his reasons and motives for behaving in one lawful manner rather than another....

For reasons which they could not comprehend, and in pursuance of a decision by default, on which they were never consulted, they found themselves made strangers in their own country. They found their wives unable to obtain hospital beds in childbirth, their children unable to obtain school places, their homes and neighbourhoods changed beyond recognition, their plans and prospects for the future defeated; at work they found that employers hesitated to apply to the immigrant worker the standards of discipline and competence required of the native-born worker; they began to hear, as time went by, more and more voices which told them that they were now the unwanted. On top of this, they now learn that a one-way privilege is to be established by Act of Parliament; a law which cannot, and is not intended to, operate to protect them or redress their grievances, is to be enacted to give the stranger, the disgruntled and the agent provocateur the power to pillory them for their private actions.

In that last passage Powell was talking about the indigenous population.

How true that Powell's words have become a prophecy instead of the warning.

Is it too late for Great Britain and Europe. I hope and pray to G-d that it isn't.

  2. Thank you Findalis for that thoughtful addition to the discussion. And yes, it was eerily prescient.

  3. I'm working on a post honoring the prophecy of Enoch Powell. His words ring out the truth more today than in 1968. I have often wondered what Great Britain would look like if the nation had heeded his words.

  4. "How does one defend the act of ruining a country, while supposedly in the service of that country?"

This my Dear Roger is the question of our times.

You are correct in your inference -it COULD happen in America. Britain is now little more than a petri dish of Western PC experimentation. What happens in Britain can and will happen in all of her offspring should they not learn from Her lessons - however unintentionally she may provide them.

My Dear Findalis - magnificent Powell quote! And yes one wonders what The Sceptered Isle would look like had it heeded Powell more seriously. We have often pondered similarly about America and Mr. Goldwater. What we might have all avoided???

    Cheers,

    Charlie

  5. Roger, have you so soon forgotten "comprehensive" "Immigration reform"???

We killed it and it was resurrected, we killed it and it will spring up again. They will keep bringing it up until we tire and let it pass.

Indeed, this nation was a damn fool in '64, rejecting the best and brightest of leaders.

Alas, it is already too lake for our British cousins. Let us learn from their blunder by correcting our own.

  6. It's beyond belief what has happened to Britain, did you know that living in Britain is now more dangerous than the Balkans?

I guess this is the reason why the vast majority of migrants have come from outside the EU, the rest are finding it's better where they are. The Conservatives couldn't get into power any sooner, one more second the left are given to ruin that country is one second too long.

I only hope the Conservatives are up to the task.

  7. This unlimited immigration policy is a deliberate attempt to destroy the identity of Britain.

  8. Findalis, Great example of the prescient being put off. As the saying goes, "None so blind as those who will not see."
Yet we have seen this developing, as Powell did, and we treat it with the same kind of indifference as his contemporaries did.
Dobbs and O'Reilly have tried to raise the issue and have been labelled as hateful.
Ironically, as many tragedies yield irony, would we have been so sobered by this without September 11th?
Sure, some of us did see this; even with the sinister implication of terrorists and a $300billion illegal drug activity.
Yet, in the United Kingdom the police are acting on just noting what 'could be' provocation, (based up legal nuances) and the United States Attorneys are investigating our own border patrol officers. City mayors are declaring sanctuary cities and yet get federal funding for teachers and police departments (should I raise the point her of who the students are and what 'public defenders cost). State health-care agencies are going broke and, here's the valve to tap, are even being taxed further from their budgets to show implemention of legal measures to assure that they will go broke (they must prove so many man-hours are spent in providing such services).
These folks have no intention of turning back, they don't have to. European countries welfare systems are supporting families in other countries (forget foreign huanitarian efforts).
We thought we were doing 'the right thing' many years ago by putting out to England a few old, rusted out destroyers. Today, when we consider any ally - in terms of a population - we'll have to ask, "Who are they?"
Blood may be spilled over this, in time, but it may be too late for it to mean in the cause of justice, or defense of country. For the laws of fallen governments would have been neutrlized.
As I expressed above "None so blind as those who will not see."
And therein is the ticker. Nobody will fault a person who 'cannot' see. But those who 'will not see' are those who are afraid to look.
God, alone, for few people pray, help us.

  10. There are many things happening behind the scenes in England/Britain that the general public do not know anything about, why, because the newspapers are so PC or politically biased that the real picture is never told. There have been many racial killings recently but if they are looked upon as coloured on white they are never reported, in the last few days a killing looked as if it was white on black, the media had a field day with lots of speculation but they soon shut up shop when it turned out it was Asian on Asian. Check out the British web site for a clearer picture, British nationalist party or BNP

Yes, don't vote for Obama or the browns will kill us all! Sigh.

Look, despite all the fearmongering, assimilation still works. Yes, immigration puts pressures on our society, causes ethnic, religious, and economic conflicts, and threatens the purity of suburban culture. But immigrants overwhelmingly are becoming American and even succeeding dramatically at work and school where native-born students and workers are failing. Hopefully competition from immigrants will get some Americans off their fat lazy butts and force them to sweat a little. Obama for President isn't going to be the end of the world. And you better get used to the idea anyway, because McCain doesn't really have a snowball's chance in hell.

  13. To Chris -- other than a deeply held conviction in your own self-importance, and your abysmal lack of knowledge of the subject, you seem to share one other trait with your fellow libs -- that inevitable persistent and annoying complacency, coupled with that affected disdain.

Assimilation works?? What country are you referring to -- not Britain I hope, not the now-infamous Londonistan, not the virtually ruined northern industrial cities which have become culturally unrecognizable and whose crime rates have soared exponentially since your wonderful immigrations? Certainly not the Britain of our good friend and contributor Lionheart?

Ask him about how well integration has worked in Luton, where he has been forced to live in fear of his life from the "assimilated" Pakistani drug gangs. But of course you know better, don't you? Your pitiful attempt at condescension falls flat at the feet of your hopeless ignorance.

Foolishness and complacency -- why do they always seem to go hand in hand with the liberal leftist persona? And add to that thoroughly unattractive mix that fashionably nasty anti-Americanism, which you are so proud to display.

And you have the gall to suggest that immigrants "will get some Americans off their fat lazy butts and force them to sweat a little." What the hell America are you talking about. Certainly not the America and the Americans I know.

Your arrogant self-centered contempt makes me ill. Why do I suspect that you are the one with the fat ass?

Here is my reply, lifted from a previous article written in response to another self-satisfied and ignorant critic of American industry:
"And why is it that this crass, unlettered public of ours, who is only interested in what brand of shoes they wear, works harder and puts in more hours and takes less vacations than any of those feeble and declining unionized socialistic European workers wallowing in their increasingly failing and stagnant economies could ever conceive of?"

I cannot bear to engage self-centered and hopelessly ignorant America haters any longer. Your empty-headed attacks just make me ill.

If you have any more bile left to spew out save it for some other more like-minded site because you have already worn out your welcome here. No room here for ignorant anti-Americanists. Sorry.

PS" Obama will join the unhappy ranks of Al Gore and John Edwards.

  14. Boing! Roger, you shot that off the charts.
I share the frustration when I try to raise the spectre of encroachment and find that I'm labelled anti-immigrant, racist, xenophobic and just a plain meaney (I take umbrage at "plain").
The irony in the argument Chris is using against people concerned with the imminance of cultural and political domination seems evident in his contempt for Americans of his own generation whom he recommends might "get some Americans off their fat lazy butts and force them to sweat a little". Maybe Chris should take a look at not so much the reports of education in American schools, but at the curricula of secondary schools of the 1950's and compare it the curricula of such schools today.
That is only one gap to fill. But it seems that the education of Americans has not led to assimilation at all. Why the need for charter schools when schools with English as the Second Language has seen little recognizeable gains forits students.
As you see, I moved this away from the political hysterics only to focus on one area where a our failure is dismal. And I use the word "our" as we've been here all along.
So let's look at how this immigration infection in Britain and the rest of Europe might affect the US.
For the most part we have similar legal codes, we have a penchant to appease at any cost, we tend to infantilize these we don't understand, when in fact the burden of understanding our way of life should be upon them.
The United States is a country of exceptionally liberal ideals, but yet, we find that these liberal ideals can be perverted by those whose only goal is extremism and the only counter we have is found in those who have a well-worked conservative appreciation for our "liberal ideals".
Mass movements are dangerous and great numbers from "Americana" (as I have defined it) are just following the parade.
