The Haitian economy is in tatters, but not for the reasons you might think. Yes, there was all-time-record-breaking devastation from an earthquake in Haiti's capital of Port au Prince and surrounding areas, but the problem now is foreign food and health aid. As I type, donated food is being stashed in warehouses for a future disaster. And then, there is also a problem with the United Nations (UN) and their money, and their spending, and their excesses.
Haiti Refugees
Let's take the U.N. first. Their budget for Haiti of $732.4 million has seen two-thirds of it going for "salaries, perks and upkeep of its own personnel, not the residents of the devastated island:
The world organization plans to spend the money on an expanded force of some 12,675 soldiers and police, plus some 479 international staffers, 669 international contract personnel, and 1,300 local workers, just for the 12 months ending June 30, 2010.
As the world out-pouring of donations hits the Haitian soil, the price of food sold by the people is lowered, and the result is that people can't trade or sell their goods.
If food is free local farmers can't sell what they grow.
Desperately poor residents who aren't earthquake victims are moving into refugee camps for the free food and health care. But the government wants residents to be less dependent on foreign aid, not more.
Now, here is the story:
Even as many go without meals, relief food that's already made it to Haiti is now being sent to warehouses for future disasters. USAID calls it "prepositioning." The U.N. also says they are scaling back and "repositioning" for future needs.
Yet, the article linked above says "hundreds of thousands go hungry."
Haiti says it still needs monetary donations, but they need it for rebuilding the ravaged areas, not for food.
As of today, total donations to Haiti meet and exceed the biggest estimates of how much it will cost to rebuild -- up to $14 billion. The record-breaking Hope for haiti Telethon in January brought in more than $66 million. That's part of the $4 billion raised by non-government groups and charities. The U.S. Government has given more than $1 billion and has pledged another billion-plus. Other countries and world bodies have pledged $8.75 billion over two years. That's $14.9 billion and counting.
A suggestion: if you continue sending donations to Haiti, don't send them the U.N.

Interview with a former member of the MSU at UC Irvine: OC Apostate by Aaron Elias
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why did you decide to leave Islam and the Muslim Student Union? Were the two decisions related?
My parents were not religious, they kept the bare minimum. When I was 5, my mother became more religious because of a teacher. At that time I discovered I was a bookworm. We moved to London to get a better religious education for a year. The Muslim community there is a lot more fundamentalist. No music, avoid non-Muslims, no assimilation; women can’t cut their hair, all kinds of rules. That’s the brand of Islam that influenced me. We came back; I became very active in the Muslim community. I became part of the MSA in HS.
By that time I had exhausted my parents’ supply of religious books, so I began reading books outside my home and being exposed to other viewpoints. I soon saw it was not ok to impose my Islam on other people.
Once in a class (when I still wore a hijab), the teacher touched my shoulder and said to me, “So young and yet you know what your whole life is going to be.”
I got into the MSU in UCI. I wrote articles for them, and everyone loved them. I got promoted to a section editor and that’s how I learned about their dark side. My writers never submitted their work on time; their excuse was they were always busy protesting or building the apartheid wall. Yelling about Israel and calling in speakers no one likes is more important than serving the community. They let a prominent magazine everyone loved fall into obscurity because they were too busy hating. By that time I was disillusioned. By that time I had to admit I no longer believed in Islam. It was tough but I had to admit it to myself. I felt it was important. I thought I was the only one in the whole world who had ever converted out of Islam, but I started looking around and found a lot of people have converted to Christianity and so on. I started a blog to help people see they weren’t alone/ I didn’t attach my real name to it. Bad idea. The MSU figured out who I was. I had one friend left in the MSU; she let me know I was an item to be brought up, a nuisance, a problem. People had started talking. It was obvious I wasn’t Muslim, my headscarf was off, I was getting dirty looks from people I didn’t know, I got uncomfortable. My father told me people told him to shut up his daughter.
So I shut down the blog for my family’s safety.
Were there any differences in the way people, friends, family, MSU members, or community acted toward you after your decision? Did the MSU’s behavior differ from non-affiliated Muslims at all?
My true Muslim friends weren’t hostile to me. The people I knew through the MSU, sometimes I got a very false greeting where we used to have good conversations. It grew pretty cold, disheartening. I thought I was well-liked, but I guess only when I was a Muslim. I had friends with me who noticed this. One time by the UCI bookstore some woman was staring me down. My friend said “look behind you”. We walked away. I didn’t know this woman. How did she know I was an ex-Muslim? I had family members ask me if they should even talk to me anymore, should they let me around their kids. Someone who rejects the truth is worse than someone who never knew it. People who they think are awful Zionist, homosexual, racist, murderer has more of a chance getting into heaven than me.
Anyone who doesn’t agree with them or fit into their world doesn’t exist. Like the Michael Oren incident. They shouldn’t be allowed to exist or speak.
They lost what it used to be. I talked to MSU alumni from the 90s. Their experience was different; it was like every other religious or ethnic club on campus. For like minds to come together and socialize with each other. It’s now political agency. They don’t make you feel welcome. It’s pretty depressing for everyone, Muslims and non-Muslims. They’re too busy building walls and bringing speakers.
What exactly happened in regards to the threats you began receiving? What did they say? Do you believe they were in response to your blog, to leaving Islam, or to leaving the MSU?
Father said: people at mosque said people are talking about your daughter, she needs to keep her mouth shut, and there might be trouble. My family is still Muslim and part of that community, they may have not been able to get to me, but they could still shun or hurt my family. My teacher might tell the kids not to play with my brother, my father not allowed into Friday prayer. I asked my parents if they wanted to disown me and tell everyone they did, but still talk to me in secret. They said no, they wanted to be my parents. So why should I drag them through the mud with me?
Was there anything about the nature of the threats that led you to form an idea about who was threatening you?
Islamic center of Irvine, Sheik Abu Makan is a Progressive. Recently he got removed, I think its because he was progressive and liberal, like men and women should be allowed to shake hands. Perhaps he let something slip about how progressive he is. Censored MSU privately, didn’t want mosque to be affiliated with them. So its probably not mosque, but maybe people who attend it, like the MSU.
Did you ever experience or hear about similar violent behavior within the MSU while you were involved in it?
The war is a war of words. Free speech is what we say and what we agree with. Hate speech is what everyone else says. The Mohammad cartoons incident. That is still a part of the MSU. I disagreed with the majority opinion. Yeah, they were stupid, but they had a right to publish them. We don’t have a right to tell them what they can publish. We say stuff others may not agree with, and we should afford them that right too. This probably started my unpopularity in the MSU.
What would you say is the general political and religious attitude within the MSU? Docile, Radical?
There’s a battle for the soul they’re not addressing. They’re busy ensuring that others have the correct political opinion; mainly, Israel sucks. I made friends with a girl after ex-Muslim; she told me her Indian bf. It turned out to be a MSU member. Having sex with Asian girl parents didn’t like. Girls wearing the hijab with tight clothes, men with no beards. There are those who are religious, those who aren’t. They may hold the correct political opinion, but may not be as religious. I was concerned with battle for our souls, people go out and drink on weekends and are more concerned about Israel.
I know 3 or 4 people who said I was sympathetic towards Palestinians, but MSU made me not give a f--k. It sucks that extremists like that are quashing the politics. It’s not black and white.
They let a great publication everyone loved die in order to protest Israel. So much so that their social activates are limited to eating and praying together. “Yeah, we’re an oppressed minority. Let’s be friends.” Not much of a deeper connection anymore. They do dinners twice a year, I didn’t much focusing on the members who just joined and could have been brought more onto the group. They’re too focused on Israel; there are members who are tempted by alcohol, sex, and drugs.
I got judged for being a secular humanist. They break their own rules and look down on me when I'm not even religious.
A friend told me not to suggest outreach or interfaith events. The people aren’t very engaging, not their priority. After Mike Oren, I saw they haven’t changed a bit. They don’t believe in free speech for anyone but themselves. For them to whine about free speech is pretty disingenuous. They even say on their website, Mike Oren should not be able to speak.
People died in riots about Mohammed cartoons. I wrote a poem about how embarrassing it is. Some stupid drawing comes out that no one cares about if you didn’t make such a big deal about it. To them it’s holy fire, not personal emotion. Emotions from God.
Since 9/11 a lot of Muslim outreach groups have been working overtime to make Islam seem more normal, but when someone says or does something stupid, all that work is crushed, all those years, all those volunteers, may not as well have exited. All those reactionaries and hotheads ruined all that work.
Regarding anyone who would claim you are lying, is there something you can tell them to prove you’re telling the truth? Something only an MSU member would know about?
I’m told when I was member in 06 and 07, that interfaith and outreach was a bad word.
What do you think should be done to ensure that nobody else has to endure what you did in case they wish to leave the club or their religion?
What the university needs to do is be more supportive of people in my situation. My situation grew pretty emotionally abusive with my parents when they were at their most confused.. When I went to financial aid office to get aid for being an independent student, they asked me if I had a religious community. If I didn’t have bruises or police report, I was fucked. I had to get private loans on my own, live in debt, live near the poverty line to get thru school. That’s why I’m so desperate for work. It was a big hindrance. My GPA went from almost 4.0 to a 2.5. There was no more for me to go. My mother often cried. A little more outreach and assistance would have helped.. But I don’t expect them to step up to the plate. That’s why im part of a humanist organization to help people in this situation.
How has the whole experience influenced your life today?
It’s made me a lot more cynical about people and their motives. When you’re that religious, and that willing to be awful to people because of their religion, it redefines faith. And they’re not doing it for Allah, its so Allah wont burn them forever. What they do is pretty ridiculous. My family member were asking if they should associate me because it might be a sin to say hi to their cousin. People really are out for themselves. Its made me an indentured servant to my loan companies in a shitty economy. I’ve based my life around repaying this stuff.
It’s made me realize what real friendship is. There were MSU people I could have been real friends with and people who loved me regardless of whether I wore a hijab or not. It’s made me more hesitant to call people friends.
If you could say something to the MSU today, what would it be?
Get your priorities straight. Serve your community. I don’t think they should be dissolved or criminalized. They can keep yelling about Israel if they want, but they need to grant other people the space to express their views and then let people decide. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

President G. W. Bush banned a suave, sophisticated and very smooth Muslim, Tariq Ramadan, from America because of his ties to Islamic terrorism. Today we have no Islamic terrorism in the U.S. so Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama offered America's hospitality once again, and Tariq Ramadan, the grandson of Hasan al-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, is free to come and go in this country.

In almost everything I read about Tariq Ramadan, he is described as a man with an amicable message...unless he is speaking to Arabic-speading audiences. This from Discover the Networks:

Moreover, Ramadan has numerous connections to fundamentalist Islamic militants and is suspected by U.S. intelligence agencies of maintaining ties with the terrorist group al Qaeda.
...this month, Tariq Ramadan, a prominent Muslim academic, visited the United States for the first time in six years after Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton reversed a decision by the Bush administration, which had barred Mr. Ramadan from entering the country, initially citing the U.S.A. Patriot Act. Mrs. Clinton also cleared the way for another well-known Muslim professor, Adam Habib, who had been denied entry under similar circumstances.
Some call him an Islamist in disguise and a master of deception, and others call him an Islamic Superstar.
In the 1990s, Western liberals, alarmed at the presence of Islamic fundamentalists in their midst, turned in desperation to Muslims whom they dubbed “reformers” or “modernizers.” They hoped that these figures would have a moderating influence on disaffected Muslim youths who refused to integrate into Western society. One such “reformer” is Tariq Ramadan, a Swiss-born academic. Ramadan has won the confidence of many in the West, including the British government, which asked him to serve on its task force for preventing Islamic extremism. But as Caroline Fourest shows in her superbly documented book, which first appeared in French in 2004, Ramadan is not a worthy figure.
But in the U.S.the superstar gets a spread in The New Yorker. It is an interesting piece by George Packer who sat on a panel and had the opportunity to ask Ramadan a couple of questions, but before his questions, here are some of Packer's observations:
Ramadan—slim, famously handsome, graying in his frizzy hair and trim beard, wearing his habitual suit with open-neck shirt—was introduced as a wrongly banned speaker, and received an ovation. His opening remarks, which he’d been scribbling backstage on a piece of paper next to a bust of George Washington, congratulated the U.S. for allowing him in, thanked the free-speech groups that had fought for his entry, criticized American foreign policy in passing, and then affirmed the existence of multiple identities within individuals, urging Muslims to stop worrying about integration in the West and instead focus on contributing to their new homes....
Once Ramadan sat down, and the panel and audience got involved, he became much sharper. Hearing him talk for an hour and a half, you realized what he is and isn’t. He is not a philosopher, or an original thinker. He has been cast in that role by recent historical crises and his own ambition—the role of someone whom large numbers of people turn to for insight on a vast range of issues, from the Islamic texts to globalization, from unemployment in France to women’s rights.
What he has to say about most subjects is garden-variety European leftism. When questions of Islam and Muslims join the debate, his stance is that of a reconciler: he wants to make it possible for young Muslims to affirm their religious faith as an identity while fully participating as citizens of secular democracies. That’s his main project, an important one, and it’s where he is at his best: as a kind of preacher to confused, questing young Muslims who want to know how to live, where they fit in. And because American Muslims are not a large and disenfranchised and angry minority in this country, I don’t think this calling leaves him with very much to say to audiences here....
An American Tariq Ramadan would likelier be talking to groups of young blacks or Hispanics.

Almost immediately after the disaster, the Arab world began their delusional retrospective qualifications and rationalizations, their absurd revisions of history. Year by year, war by disastrous war, they sank lower and lower into that dark hopeless world of self-pity and hatred. And as Israel prospered, the Arab world seethed with self-loathing and plotted revenge.

Still threatened, still surrounded by its vast and deadly enemies who only dream of its destruction, tiny Fortress Israel holds forth. A sad state affairs this indictment is:

Kudos to the French government for shutting down satellite broadcasts of the Egyptian TV channel Al Rahma after repeated anti-Semitic broadcasts transmitted to France.
The breaking point was a broadcast by a lunatic imam named Hazem Shuman, who in a "sermon", referred to Jews as apes and pigs and warned them "their time was coming".

"Tonight’s lecture is one of the most important lectures of this series. Tonight, we will talk about the Battle of Khaybar, about the Prophet Muhammad’s greatest battle [with the Jews], in which the Prophet eradicated the Jewish presence in Al-Madina.
On June 5, 1967, when the Jews occupied Palestine and Jerusalem and were celebrating their victory, Moshe Dayan cried: “This is our revenge for Khaybar.” How come Khaybar remained seared in their hearts for 1,400 years? After 1,400 years, their hearts are still burning because of Khaybar. The first thing that the Prophet Muhammad did after his victory in the Hudaybiyya Treaty, after he stabilized the Muslim state, and neutralized the Quraysh front, the first mission of the Prophet Muhammad, his first campaign, was against the Jews of Khaybar.
Your turn has come at last, you offspring of apes and pigs, you most accursed creatures created by Allah, you people who have harmed the Prophet again and again.
Only 20 days after the Hudaybiyya Treaty, the Prophet Muhammad decided to take the army of Islam to Khaybar. Why the Jews of all people? It has been proven that the Jews are like a cancer – if they are not removed from the body of the nation, they will kill the entire nation. Unless the Jews were dealt with, they would have brought the Persians and the Byzantines to the Arabian Peninsula. the Jews are dangerous to the whole world. They threatened the stability of the Arabian Peninsula.

Jews are always the same. We are still tormented by the sights of their massacres of the Muslims, when they went into Sabra and Shatila. Sharon chopped off the limbs of children, and used them to make a necklace, so that he could boast that he dismembered the bodies of Muslim children. They shot dead an entire family, except for a baby, who screamed at the sight of the bloodbath. The moment they saw he was crying, they shot him with a machine-gun as well. At Sabra and Shatila, they raped a Muslim woman, and then killed her children in front of her. They tore off women’s ears, by pulling their earrings.

The Jews of Khaybar in the 7th year of the hijra are a replica of the state of Israel in 2009, in terms of the terrifying economy that sucked the blood of the Arabs, the military armaments and superiority over the entire region, the settlements that form the state, the fortifications, like the separation fence that they are building today.
When the army of the Muslims arrived, the Jews removed their women and children from the fortifications at the front, and left only their fighters at the front... The army of the Prophet Muhammad was very poor. The Muslims had nothing to eat. The first time they ate was after the conquest of Khaybar.
One of the Prophet Muhammad’s companions had a debt to a Jew. The Jew told him he had to pay his debt before he left, but the Muslim did not have even 5 dirham, so he sold his clothes so he could pay his debt and leave. The Prophet’s companions sold their clothes in order to fight the Jews, and take revenge upon them.

Finally, [in the battle of Khaybar], Allah gave the Muslims strength, and they launched a martyrdom-seeking attack on the fortifications. All their lives long, they were martyrdom-seekers and heroes, who sacrificed their blood for Islam. They stormed the fortress and took the Jews captive, for the first time. All the other Jews fled.
When the Muslims entered the fortress, they were astounded. What is this? Never in their lives had they seen so much food – enough to last years. They were astounded by the weapons too. There was a weapon called a tank. It was a house made of tin, like today’s tanks. Soldiers sat in it and drove it towards the fortifications. When they were pelted with arrows, it did not have any effect on them. There were catapults, which fired bombs of fire, which penetrated the walls and smashed the fortifications. Why did the Jews amass all these weapons? They were planning to use them against the Muslims. They were preparing for the day when they would fight the Muslims – otherwise, why would they have amassed all those weapons? The [Muslims] also found large quantities of wine, which they poured out on the floor.

The [Muslim fighters] reached the final fortification, the final battle. All the Jews, including women and children, were here. The walls were enormous. The number of arrows fired from its towers was indescribable. Its gates were well fortified, and no one could escape from there. This was the first time that the Prophet Muhammad used catapults. The [Muslims] shot catapults at the walls until there were gaping holes in them. All the Muslim army charged into the final fortress, with hatred burning in their hearts for the Jews, with a strong desire to take revenge upon the offspring of apes and pigs.
All the Muslims – men and women – charged with a strong desire to annihilate the Jews. They entered the fortress, and a terrible battle took place, a violent battle in the last fortress, until all the Jewish soldiers were arrested and all the Jewish women captured. Khaybar trembled with the sound of the cries of “Allah Akbar,” and the entire Arabian Peninsula shook with the victorious cries of “Allah Akbar.”
1,400 soldiers defeated 10,000 Jews. The Jews were defeated, and the reputation of the invincible army was shattered. After a month-long siege and terrible fighting, the Jews were defeated. The Arabian Peninsula shook with the cries of “Allah Akbar,” and the Jews collapsed.
Soon the cries of “Allah Akbar” will be sounded at the gates of Jerusalem, and at the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Soon, cries of “Allah Akbar” will be heard on the day of vengeance against the Jews.
The Jews were defeated. The Prophet Muhammad and everybody was very surprised that only 96 Jews were killed, along with 16 Muslims. 96 people? The Prophet could have massacred the Jews, down to the last one. Why did the Prophet Muhammad let them be? Because the Prophet Muhammad does not fight for the sake of war or bloodshed. He fights for the sake of peace. this proves to what extent he is the prophet of peace.

I have a message for every Jew on the face of the earth. The army of Muhammad will return. Oh offspring of apes and pigs, the day of vengeance is nearing. Valentine's Day!!
Originally, as I was drafting this, I was going to put up my usual laughing faces and Alfred E. Newman caricature alongside this Valentine's Day speech. I thought better of it after reading the words in the other video. There is nothing funny about this. This crazed fanatic is deadly serious.
Shuman is not an isolated case in the Middle Eastern media-especially in Egypt. Several so-called mainstream media organs regularly publish anti-Jewish cartoons reminiscent of the old Nazi publication, Der Stuermer. Here are a few examples.

Presently, the state of Arizona is the hotbed of illegal alien border crossings from Mexico into the US. The focus shifted east when fences were constructed by the Federal government in California along much of its border with Mexico. In addition, Arizona has been hit with a recent murder of a ranch owner whose property was near the border by an illegal alien. Now the Arizona House-free from the governorship of Janet Napolitano, now head of Homeland Security, which is a joke-has just passed a law that makes it a state violation to be an illegal alien. It still needs to be signed by the governor.
State Senator Russell Pearce (R-Mesa) was interviewed today on KFI's John and Ken Show (Los Angeles). He explained how the law works. This law now obligates law enforcement to take action when they determine that someone they have stopped or arrested is in the country illegally. They are now required to detain the individual and must notify ICE. They will now be allowed to develop probable cause that the person may be in the country illegally when engaged with a suspect.
Of course, Arizona has several Democrat-controlled cities that are so-called "sanctuary cities". They are cities like Phoenix, Flagstaff, Tucson, and Chandler. Here is the interesting part; Should local authorities fail to follow the law, they are now subject to lawsuits by private citizens, which is written into the law. The supporters of this law have brought together attorneys who are prepared to file lawsuits for non-compliance. Public support is overwhelming including 60% of the state's Hispanic population.
Most of law enforcement has enthusiastically endorsed the law including 9 of the 15county sheriffs. Certain city police chiefs, who are beholden to Democrat-controlled city leadership have not signed on-as might be respected.
What a novel idea! Do you think all four southern border states will adopt similar measures? Well, that all depends which party is in control.
Starting tonight at sunset and until tomorrow's sunset, Jews through out the world will be remembering those who were murdered in the Holocaust.
I could write volumes to describe the horrors that the German nation, their allies, and even the United State and Great Britain allowed to happen. But instead I will let the survivors speak.

On 4 September 2003 3 Israeli Air Force F-15 fighter planes, piloted by offspring of Holocaust survivors, flew over the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp today as part of a salute to the victims' bravery and a pledge to be the "shield of the Jewish People in Israel."
The Israel Air Force planes departed for Poland on August 28 to participate in events marking the 85th anniversary of the Polish Air Force. Several air forces from the around world participated in the event. The Israel Air Force took part in the main event staged at the Polish air base in Radom, during which the three F-15s passed over the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp to honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust.
During the flyover, the head of the IAF team Brig.-Gen. Amir Eshel announced, over the pilots' communication system and broadcasted simultaneously on the ground, "We Air Force pilots flying in the sky above the camp of horror, created from the ashes of six million victims, carry their silent cries, salute their bravery and promise to be the shield of the Jewish people in Israel."
The planes, emblazoned with the Star of David, flew above the camp along the railway tracks which led to the crematoria before peeling away. They were accompanied by two Polish MiG-29 jets.
"[The pilots] will fly over the camp for about a second to honor the ashes of their fathers and grandfathers," said Israel Ambassador to Poland Shevach Weiss. "This will be a very emotional moment for them. They will probably be crying in the planes."
In addition to the flyover, some 200 Israeli soldiers were due to take part at a ceremony in the camp, during which the names of victims who arrived at Auschwitz exactly 60 years ago, on September 4, 1943, were to be recited.

A year ago in Cairo, President Barack Hussein Obama said:

Tomorrow, I will visit Buchenwald, which was part of a network of camps where Jews were enslaved, tortured, shot and gassed to death by the Third Reich. Six million Jews were killed – more than the entire Jewish population of Israel today. Denying that fact is baseless, ignorant, and hateful. Threatening Israel with destruction – or repeating vile stereotypes about Jews – is deeply wrong, and only serves to evoke in the minds of Israelis this most painful of memories while preventing the peace that the people of this region deserve."
Obama is wrong!
Israel is not a nation because of the Holocaust! There was a Holocaust because there was no Israel!
Once more the Jewish people are being threatened by those who would seek their destruction. And once more the so-called leaders of the civilized world will look the other way. But this time we Jews will not go quietly into the gas chambers! This time have the means to fight back! This time we will prevail!
