Cairo Embassy Stormed and an American Killed in Cairo: We Blames the Copts

In addition to the riot in Cairo, our consulate in Benghazi, Libya has been stormed and burned. An American staff worker has been shot dead. Was this a "celebration" of 9-11? If not, it's one of the great coincidences in world history. The outraged Muslim world is blaming some obscure movie supposedly produced in the US which, of course, offends Muslims. What else is new?

It appears that this movie was produced by an Egyptian Coptic Christian living in the US. I don't know what is in the movie, and at this moment, I don't particularly care. What I know is that the Copts in Egypt have been and still are persecuted badly in Egypt by the Muslim majority. When I say persecuted, I am not talking about unfriendly blogs or restrictions on their dress; I am talking about murder, bombings and burnings of their churches, rape of their women, and forced conversions to Islam. Yet our pusillanimous State Department (the Cairo embassy) under Her Nibs, Hillary Clinton, issues this sorry statement:

The U.S. Embassy said that it "condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims -- as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions."
"Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy," the statement said. "We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others."

That's right, State: Assign blame to the Copts, who will now suffer even more violence at the hands of the outraged savages. What we should be doing is offering asylum to every Copt in Egypt-to say nothing of the Baha'i in Iran.

What is happening in Egypt is making a mockery of President Obama (wherever he is on the campaign trail) and his great speech in Cairo in 2009. The only response from him today has been his snub of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. How timely is that?

As for Libya, isn't this the country we helped (somewhat) to overturn Ghaddafi not so long ago? Yes, I thought it was. There is your gratitude.

And yet, we still worry over what to do in Syria to stop the slaughter. Problem is we no longer know who is slaughtering whom. And you want to send in the troops to get killed a'la Mogadishu? Not me.

And Pakistan, our erstwhile ally in the war against al Qaeda and the Taliban? Don't make me go there. This is the country that sheltered Usama bin Laden in the safest place imaginable-the town where their main military training base was located.

It is time to admit the hard truth; the Islamic world hates our guts, and doesn't care how much money we send their way or how many of their peoples we liberate (Bosnia, Kosovo, Somalia, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Kuwait). It means nothing whatsoever. We are the Great Satan, the Infidels. It is high time we take them at their word and make the necessary conclusions. We don't belong there. It is time to start closing our embassies and bring our people home before we have the next diplomatic hostage crisis. Bring our people (and troops) home and let these crazy people stew in their own 7th century juices.

Today, on the 11th anniversary of 9-11, an American diplomat was murdered in an American consulate. It should be the last.
