While Detroiters are waiting in line to received monies from "Obama's stash," the soldier involved in this weekend's battle have lost everything but the clothing on their backs. Flying into the besieged Afghan base during a nighttime firefight this weekend was a harrowing mix of overwhelming noise, stomach dropping maneuvers and shadows hurrying through the gloom.

When the chopper lifted off moments later with three wounded soldiers, it left behind others who wer wounded but refused to be MEDEVACED out of the combat zone so they could return to fight with their buddies.

From the Beaver County Times:

Around dawn Saturday, about 200 "local fighters" launched a coordinated attack, showering a joint U.S.-Afghan army outpost with small arms, rocket-propelled grenades and mortar shells. Taylor said insurgents fired from at least three sides _ including a local mosque they took over, buildings in the village, and high ground above the outpost.

Most U.S. installations in Iraq and Afghanistan are heavily guarded with rings of razor wire, huge sand-filled barriers, blast walls and security cameras. It is rare _ almost unheard of _ for insurgents to breach such defenses and get inside.

The video below is from Summer 2009 by Britain's Channel 4 News photographer Stuart Webb. The information is specifically about Compost Outpost Keating. At about 5:40 in, you'll hear a soldier say that they saw three men in the hills earlier, but because of the rules of engagement, soldiers could take no action, although the weapons could have been hidden. Please note that the statement at the end of the video, about Obama attempting to shore up support for Afghanistan, was last summer. That was then, it is not the case now.

Update 10-9-09 - COP Keating evacuated

A caution about donations, in light of the following, we don't know how our donations will be apportioned. Surely they will get to a soldier in need, no matter his unit, but it is your decision to donate or not, now that we know the camp has been abandoned.

Breitbart has reported that Combat Outpost Keating has been evacuated and demolished by the U.S. Army. Outpost Fritsche were also abandoned this week.:

"We had been planning to realign our forces to better protect the population for months. These closings are part of that realignment," said an Army spokesperson Major T.G. Taylor."

Yeah - right. While our President flies to Copenhagen and mugs on TV about his Nobel Prize for making no peace, the Army goes about doing what it must do without Barack Obama's support.

Things not allowed by Hamas in Gaza:

Men and women walking together, holding hands, riding in a car together, swimming together, eating together, shopping together, studying together, living together, sleeping together, and now it is forbidden for women to ride motorcycles.

The Hamas government has banned women from riding motorcycles in the Gaza Strip, saying the move was in keeping with "Arab traditions."

The decision to ban women from riding motorcycles was published by the Hamas-controlled Interior Ministry, which is in charge of the movement's security forces in the Gaza Strip.

The decision is seen in the context of Hamas's efforts to enforce strict Islamic teachings in the area.

Two months ago, a Hamas judge issued an order requiring all women who appear in court to wear the hijab.

Men and women who are seen together are regularly stopped by Hamas policemen or militiamen who question them about the nature of their relationship.

Forbidden under Hamas!

Explaining its latest decision, Hamas said it was made to "safeguard the safety of residents and to maintain the stability of traditions and customs in Palestinian society."

The Hamas statement said that men would not be allowed from now on to carry women behind them as they drive their motorcycles.

I wonder if they were afraid that some of the dissident happy slaves of Gaza were planning to form a branch of the Hell's Angels?

Nobel Prize winner 'happy, shocked'

Prof. Ada Yonath of the Weizmann Institute of Science - whose highly abstruse field and targets were regarded with skepticism by colleagues and who was treated like "the village fool" for years - has been awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her four decades of research on protein "factories" in cells.

Her dedicated work has led to the current struggle against antibiotic-resistant bacteria and many other applications. Yonath is the world's first woman to become a chemistry laureate since 1964, and only the fourth in history. Her prize will be Israel's ninth Nobel and its second in chemistry, and the Rehovot institute's first. The ceremony will be held in Stockholm on December 10.

Continuing a message expressed numerous times by Prof. Aaron Ciechanover after he won the 2004 Nobel in Chemistry with his mentor, Prof. Avram Hershko, Yonath warned on Wednesday that inadequate government funding available for aspiring Israeli scientists would make it far more difficult for younger researchers to earn Nobel Prizes in the future. "Those who win the prize now do so because of what has happened before, not because of what is happening now," she said.

However, she added that the world would soon be hearing about a promising new generation of Israeli scientists.

In further news 75 Arabs have been arrested for rioting over their false claim to the Temple Mount. Construction has begun on new housing units in East Jerusalem, in open defiance of Barack Hussein Obama. Thousands of Christains marched in along side with Jews in the annual Sukkot March. I do believe this year's theme song was: "Praise The Lord, And Pass the Israeli Flag.". That ditty just might go high on the charts.

And according to ABC News, the US is preparing to attack Iran. If there was anyone else in the White House other than Barack Hussein Obama, I just might believe this report. But with the Great Appeaser, the reincarnation of Neville Chamberlain sitting in the Oval Office, I will just laugh. The man doesn't have the balls to do it.

African Archbishops Believe Barack Obama is God's Divine Plan

African Bishops meeting in the Vatican believe Barack Obama is part of a "divine" plan, God's "divine" plan. Archbishop Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle of Ghana compares Obama to the Old Testament's Joseph. A question not asked: is abortion a part of God's divine plan?

"It's like the biblical story repeating itself," he told reporters, citing the Old Testament figure, Joseph, who after being sold into slavery in Egypt ends up becoming a top official.

"God directs history," said Archbishop Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle. God did not, however, direct Palmer-Buckle to speak out against the Obama administration's support of abortion - or maybe He did, and the Archbishop didn't listen. Palmer-Buckle says he and his peers are aware of the controversy in the U.S. over the right-to-life issue, but nevertheless, (and I can hear him intone this):

But we feel it our duty to meet him and find out what are the things that unite us more than divide us."

How can leader in the Catholic church identify a divine mission in the efforts of Barack Obama? The answer is, it's all about being black.

A black president, a black pope in the future - it's all a:

"divine sign and a sign from the Holy Spirit for the reconciliation of races and ethnic groups for peaceful relations...," said Monsignor Laurnet Monsengwo Pasinya of the Congo.

I agree with that statement. I see America's election of a black man or woman as a wonderful step for our country...but not this particular black man.

How can abortion be viewed as a "divine sign?" How can abortion be viewed as a road to "peace?"

Archbishop John Onaiyekan of Nigeria had a different take on the importance of Barack Obama:

"Obama has the authority to talk straight to our bad leaders and tell them they are messing up our countries," he said. Besides, he added, "In Africa we are always happy when our brother is big."

High expectations, considering we know how tough Obama is not on the "bad leaders" around the world. 

Just like politicians, churches today see their mission as making it easy for themselves and those who follow. It has nothing to do with being "right" or "moral," but everything to do with power.

This is one of the more disgusting religious news stories I've ever read.

White House Invitations and the Slandering of a Wounded DEA Agent

This week, while perusing an article on David Horowitz's Frontpage Magazine blog, I came across a piece of information that hit me like a punch in the stomach. The article in question, written by Ben Johnson and which is linked below, concerns a cultural meeting organized by White House presidential advisor Valerie Jarrett back in May 2009. It was a gathering of numerous leftist individuals from various corners of the cultural world. Among the invitees was an artist/muralist named Judith Baca.

I draw the reader's attention to the below lines from that article:

"Others Jarrett’s office asked to help shape the administration’s agenda shared Van Jones’ conspiratorial outlook on the world. The OPE invited Judith F. Baca, who once noted some of her Los Angeles-area public murals “were about drug abuse, including the government-supported influx of drugs into the communities, including the Las Tres issue in Los Angeles, where three people were imprisoned for shooting a narcotics agent who was bringing narcotics into the community.” (Baca's words)

Though not personally involved in the Los Tres incident, which occurred in 1971 in Los Angeles, I do have some knowledge of the incident.

On July 22, 1971, Robert Canales, an undercover agent for the then-Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs was working undercover in East Los Angeles negotiating a drug purchase from three suspects. In an attempt to rob the UC agent of the buy money, the three ambushed the agent and shot him leaving him permanently crippled. Yet, once they were arrested, the leftist activist community and the LA media took up the cause of "Los Tres" (The Three) and the urban myth was propagated that these three punks were only protecting their (Mexican-American) community from drug agents "who were bringing in drugs". It was a shameful episode. (The three were convicted and sentenced to prison.)

Canales, though crippled for life, was able to continue his career as a supervisor in the LA office. In 1974-75, while stationed in the LA office of DEA(the successor agency to BNDD), I was privileged to work under this brave agent who was unfairly maligned by the local activists and the local media on behalf of three low-life criminals.

To be exact, Mr Johnson took the above quote from a 1994 book by Maxine Schwarz Seller, entitled: "Immigrant Women", State University Press of New York, 1994. There is a section on Baca, and Baca's quote appears on page 214. (This can be found under Google Books.)

In addition, Baca reproduces the quote on her own website (Judith F Baca Official Website). Under the sub-heading "publications", she references a book by Diane Neumaier entitled,"Political Arts-Subversive Arts". This book also features a narrative by Baca (pp 256-270) in which the quote in question is repeated on pp
264-265. Thus, this slanderous and untrue statement sits today on Baca's website.

I should note here that Baca is a renowned and clearly talented mural artist from Los Angeles, who has a slew of awards to her credit. She is apparently a leftist "Chicana" activist who is currently on the faculty at UCLA. I confess that I had previously never heard of her before reading this Frontpage article. Personally, I could care less what her view of the world happens to be. I care greatly about what she has said about Mr Canales. I do not know if she has since retracted this comment about Mr Canales, which she made back in 1994, apparently not since it still stands on her website.

Today, I contacted Mr Canales and brought this information to his attention for whatever action he deems appropriate.

I am grateful to Mr Johnson for bringing this information to the fore on Frontpage Magazine. If this outrageous mis-representation of a wounded DEA agent is still appearing in print and being disseminated, then it must be pointed out and denounced. Of course, it is hardly surprising that the person spreading this lie is being invited to the current White House.

What to Do in Chicago?

Now that the Olympic issue has been put to rest, I think it is time to talk more about one of the factors that probably contributed to the selection of another city to host the games (Rio de Janeiro). That is the brutal death of 16-year-old honor student Derrion Albert, who was killed when he stumbled into the middle of a gang fight on Chicago's south side.

Not that this is anything new for the south side of Chicago. The area has been plagued by gangs and violence for as long as I can remember. The city takes a lot of blame for the continuance of this situation as corruption continues its long tradition unabated.

Now the White House is getting involved, largely because everybody is directing their attention to the President, who happens to be from the south side of Chicago and was in Denmark touting the city for the Olympics just after the killing occurred. The timing drew criticism from some quarters.

Here's what White House Press Spokesman Robert Gibbs had to say to reporters this week:

"I can tell you obviously the reports of and the video that we have seen on television is among the most shocking that you can ever see." The killing of an honor student by others who's beaten to death is chilling, chilling video and I think this is something that the administration has been working on."

Gibbs said the administration plans a response to the "heinous crime" soon.

It has also been announced that Attorney General Eric Holder and Education Secretary Arne Duncan (former head of schools in Chicago) will be going to Chicago Wednesday to meet with.......blah, blah, blah, quack, quack, quack, woof, woof, woof.

With all due respect, history shows that there is little that anybody in Washington can do to address the problem of inner-city gangs and violence. It's not just Chicago; in LA, Hispanic and black street gangs are killing each other on a daily basis. Crime is a problem in virtually every major inner city.

So now the administration in Washington and the corrupt city leaders in Chicago are going to figure out a way to prevent future Derrion Alberts? First of all, the leaders of Chicago are too busy collecting graft and fixing elections to devote more than token time and effort to this issue-which has existed for many, many decades. The city has traditionally been divided by a white north side and black south side. What will Holder and Duncan accomplish? Well, for starters, there will surely be the announcement of a big government program to "work with the community", "reach out", "provide alternatives", etc-you know how it goes. Maybe they will build more "affordable housing". Have you ever seen the "affordable housing" in Chicago? And who knows; this will probably be another opportunity for ACORN to grab millions more to do their "community organizing" in the Windy City.

I would have hoped that President Obama's success story could be used as an inspiration to the young south-siders as to what they can really accomplish. I'd love to see him go to back to Chicago and talk in a town hall full of Chicago kids and tell them that if they stay out of trouble, stay away from drugs, finish high school and avoid becoming parents before they are 21, their chances of having a good life are pretty high. It's not a complicated formula. That is precisely the formula advanced by black conservative activist Larry Elder. But for that, he is called an "Uncle Tom". One major step toward fighting the problem would be to somehow restore the traditional black two-parent family, which welfare helped to destroy. Accomplishing this is no easy task, however.

Of course, I say this all from the perspective of a 64-year-old white guy who never grew up or lived in the inner-city (though I did happen to spend considerable time there as a DEA agent).

What I am leading up to is that in my opinion, there is little more that government can do to change the situation in black America. They have done all they can do, for better or worse. Civil rights have been enacted-for the better. Yet, public housing projects are crumbling and are places no one can live in safety. Welfare accomplished little but break up black families-and that is the real root problem here-not white racism. Police and federal agencies have tried to remove the criminals from these communities-and get only condemnation for it. Who suffers for that? The decent people who have to continue to live in these communities and be plagued by the gangs, pimps and drug dealers.

It is high time for black activists and so-called leaders to put to rest the idea that this is all due to racism. Racism on the part of whites is the very least of the problems facing black America today. There is nothing white America can do other than treat each human being fairly. When you watch the video of the beating death of Derrion Albert, you see no whites involved. This young boy was not the victim of racism.

The rest of it is up to black America-at the grass-roots level. The churches (minus the Jeremiah Wrights), schools, other local institutions and families need to address this issue without demanding more money from Washington or blaming racism.

As I write this, Derrion is being buried today. Of course, the funeral is being attended by people like hate-monger Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson and the NAACP, a once great civil-rights organization now deeply politicized. What message will they give to the mourners, Chicago and black America? That we must all continue to fight racism?

Notwithstanding the title of this essay, I don't know the solution to this intractable problem. I reject the notion, however, that the government has the solution, that money or programs is the solution or that this is another moment for white America to look itself in the mirror. We have done that. We have recognized our past history and, except for fringe elements, rejected the idea that we are "superior". We do believe in fair play for all. One thing I learned from working in inner cities as a DEA agent is that those areas have lots of good people trying to survive, live in security and keep their kids out of trouble. Unfortunately, there is the criminal element that preys first and foremost on the people in their own community. They are enabled by the radicals and hate-mongers who tell them they are victims of a racist society. They are enabled by liberal judges, academics, journalists and politicians who echo that sentiment. It does no one any good.

The fact is that nobody in Washington has the answer. Nobody in Chicago's city hall has the answer. The answer, whatever it is, is to be found in the south side of Chicago.

Some 50 years ago, a young black teenage boy named Emmett Till was buried in Chicago after he had been beaten to death in Mississippi for whistling at a white woman. He was truly a victim of racism. Today, Derrion Albert is being buried in Chicago. Is he any different than Emmett Till? In a sense, no; both were victims of a cancer that has plagued our country. Derrion, however, was a victim of a different cancer.

Linked below is a letter from the Zionist Organization of America to the University of California at Irvine, legal office in regards to a Muslim Student Union-sponsored speaking event at UC-Irvine on May 21, 2009, in which British MP and pro-Hamas activist, George Galloway, collected money for his Viva Palestina drive. I have previously written on this event on this blog as I was present and observed collections being taken on behalf of Gaza. The issue at question is whether Galloway and his minions violated US law in collecting money on behalf of Hamas, a US-designated terrorist organization and whether US public universities should be used as a venue for such purposes.
